The value of a diamond increases exponentially with carat weight, because larger diamonds are a lot rarer and more desirable for use as gemstones in fine diamond jewelry. Larger carat diamonds may be more expensive but often have less desirable clarity and color when compared to smaller diamonds.

“Clarity” is a measure internal gemstone defects, called inclusions, or flaws. These are tiny natural irregularities within the body of the gem.
