Gold is a yellow color in its purest form. Pure gold cannot be used to form a gemstone setting because it is such a soft metal that the setting would alter shape and the stone would fall out. This means that, like white gold jewelry and rose gold jewelry, yellow gold jewelry is made from an alloy of pure gold. In this case the alloying metal is often a paler or yellow color so that gold jewelry (jewellery) remains a glorious rich yellow gold.

Fine diamond jewelry reflects the splendour of nature at its most enduring, is universally given to women on special occasions. Although traditionally bought by men, women are increasingly choosing to buy diamonds online for their own collection of fine diamond jewelry. Buying diamonds online is made easy by EHJewels. We bring the highest quality fine diamond jewelry at outstanding prices together in one place so that you can relax when you choose to buy diamonds online.
Natural diamonds form over billions of years deep within the Earth’s crust under high temperatures and pressures. However, only a tiny percentage of all diamonds mined are good enough to be made into fine diamond jewelry. Diamonds are uniquely precious gemstones and fine diamond jewelry classically symbolises timeless, enduring love.
The word “diamond” comes from the Greek “adamas” meaning “unconquerable love”. Celebrated in the song, “Diamond’s Are Forever”, they are the hardest substance known to mankind. All this makes fine diamond jewelry the perfect special occasion gift, especially for people born in April: diamonds are April’s Birthstone.
Fine diamonds are graded by color, cut, carat weight and clarity.
Colorless and near colorless diamonds, are rare, highly prized and comparatively expensive. However, to the untrained eye, most diamonds appear as white as the most expensive diamonds. This makes slightly “off white” tinted diamonds excellent value when set into fine diamond jewelry. Natural diamonds falling outside the normal color range are called “fancies” and, like the truly colorless diamonds, command high prices.
The “cut” of a diamond describes the manner in which a diamond has been shaped and polished to reflect and refract light to reveal the fire and brilliance so characteristic of fine diamonds in jewelry. A diamond’s cut is extremely difficult to judge quantitatively and many factors must be considered to ensure the rough crystal yields the best quality and carat weight of final diamond gemstone. Indeed a well-cut diamond can appear to be of greater carat weight, and have greater clarity and better color than it actually does.
In 1919, Tolkowsky, mathematically calculated the ideal cut for a diamond to maximise brilliance (white light reflections), fire (flashes of color) and scintillation (patterns of light and dark).when viewed from above. This became known as the brilliant or round cut. However, not all diamond roughs lend themselves to the brilliant cut.
“Fancy cuts” used in fine diamond jewelry include the baguette, marquise, princess, heart, briolette (a form of the rose cut), pear and emerald cut. Cuts are also influenced by fashion: the baguette cut accentuates a diamond’s lustre but downplays its fire and was popular in fine diamond jewelry during the Art Deco period. Conversely, princess cuts accentuate fire, not lustre, and are currently very popular. The princess cut also results in the least crystal waste.
A diamond’s “carat” describes its weight, rather than size, although larger diamonds obviously have higher carat weights. Since 1907, one carat has been defined as 0.2g (200mg), and also as 100 points. The value of a diamond increases exponentially with carat weight, because larger diamonds are a lot rarer and more desirable for use as gemstones in fine diamond jewelry. Larger carat diamonds may be more expensive but often have less desirable clarity and color when compared to smaller diamonds.
“Clarity” is a measure internal gemstone defects, called inclusions, or flaws. These are tiny natural irregularities within the body of the gem. Flawless diamonds, without surface or internal flaws, are the rarest, most beautiful and most expensive gemstones. However, most gemstones contain inclusions to some extent, although these may only be seen under 10x magnifications. These diamonds are high enough quality to be use in fine diamond jewelry.
Where inclusions do not detract from a gemstone’s beauty (e.g. colored diamonds), inclusions are not only acceptable but in fact act as testimony to the gemstone’s natural (rather than man-made) authenticity.

So what is Murano Glass jewelry?
Murano Glass Jewelry is unique jewelry. Murano Glass is hand blown art glass made only in Murano, one of several islands in the Venetian lagoon, Venice, Italy. Murano has been known for master glassmaking for centuries and Murano Glass, also known as Venetian glass, is still considered to be the best in the world today.
The creation of Murano Glass jewelry begins with the manufacture of colored glass canes, which itself is a significant challenge to the glassmaker since it requires spot on precision mixing of the chemical compounds. The tubes and canes are heated until they reach a near-liquid state at which point they are formed into the desired Murano Glass bead shape. Murano glass beads are delicate and exquisite. They come many shapes and sizes for use in Murano Glass jewelry.
The beauty of Murano Glass jewelry comes from the clarity of the colors and the sparkle of the glass. Sterling silver, vermeil, rhodium and gold can all be incorporated into Murano glass jewelry designs. Murano Glass jewelry is made from a wide range of colors of Murano Glass beads. The different bead colors are made from different processes.
In the case gold and silver beads, the 24k gold foil or silver foil respectively, is layered onto a color glass center and heat sealed with clear, high quality crystal like glass, creating a very distinct Venetian Murano Glass beads or Murano pearls. The beads are then covered by threads of colored glass, or “fili” and may be put into a further mould. The use of 24k gold foil creates a dazzling effect in the resultant Murano Glass jewelry.
When you buy Murano glass jewelry you get artisan jewelry made from the finest art glass available. A piece of Murano jewelry is a treasure. Each piece is hand blown and artisan crafted. No two pieces are alike. Murano Glass jewelry is a symbol of elegant taste and unique fashion appreciation.
